Solutions Architect

Overview

Baseline’s Data Warehouse and MDM Architects are responsible for solution design and hands-on implementation guidance through technical leadership, best practices and deep experience. Architects must have expertise in data integration, business analytics, and data warehousing methods and best practices.

This is a leadership position. Architects work with Business Analysts and Data Modelers to understand client business and data requirements and then design solutions best suited to meet current and future needs. Architects lead the technical project teams in developing and delivering data solutions, mentoring each team member and personally completing deliverables when necessary. Architects are engaged in the assessment, planning, and development of Data Warehouse, Data Integration, Data Management, and Business Analytics solutions.

Objectives

  • Design and build Data Integration, Data Management, Data Warehouse, and Business Analytics solutions that meet the customers’ current and future needs.
  • Become the customer’s trusted technical expert on solutions involving data.

Responsibilities

  • Overall DW architecture design, which includes logical and physical design of data warehouse, data marts, staging area, and ODS.
  • Provide expert knowledge regarding Data Warehousing, OLAP technology, and data management including ETL.
  • Translate business needs into long-term architecture solutions
  • Assists the Manager in planning, developing, and implementing data warehouse strategy to provide integration of data across systems on different platforms and in different database systems.
  • Establish data management framework and work plans for implementation, lead development of an enterprise metadata repository
  • Prepare ETL specifications for Data Warehouse based projects.
  • Develops all architecture and design documentation artifacts.
  • Document technical and functional requirements such as SLA, data availability, volume of data , response time and security and privacy
  • Document current data flows and design target data flows between various sources and destinations of the data, which includes data distribution and replication.
  • Document data content, data relationships and structure, processes that manage, transform or touch data, business rules that govern the data, durations for which data is required.
  • Communicate with Enterprise Architects, Data Architects, Developers, Infrastructure
  • Specialists and Project Managers and maintain a detailed understanding of the end-to-end solution.
  • Provide insight and direction from a design and implementation perspective, along with assessment of impact on technology architectural standards.
  • Establish and enhance data standards, architecture and roadmaps to align with the global data strategy.
  • Lead overall solution design and delivery activities for Baseline clients as related to Master
  • Data Management and CDI.
  • Lead technical requirements gathering, analysis, and design oversight for CDI solutions including recommendations for selection, sizing, and configuration of hardware and software.
  • Responsible for successful delivery of Business Intelligence Customer Data Integration and/or Master Data Management technology initiatives.
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership & direction to the team, understand business challenges & translate them into process/technical solutions and manage client relationships within context of individual role.

Representative Duties

  • Interview IT personnel and document current environment and needs.
  • Review business requirements and document data, technology, functional, and resource requirements.
  • Assess the current data availability and quality
  • Determine and document the best technology architecture to meet the customer’s requirements.
  • Create ETL specifications.
  • Design the information delivery for the initial BI applications.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience as a solutions architect and consultant
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 100%
  • A college degree from an accredited university
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience creating MS PowerPoint presentations and diagrams
  • Ability to successfully present concepts, findings, and recommendations to business and technical stakeholders
  • Skilled in analyzing client requirements and artifacts
  • Understand and Demonstrate insight into:

    • Data Warehouse Development

Desired Skills

  • Understanding of at least two of the following platforms (Unix/Linux, Mainframe, PC Servers)
  • Experience in at least one ETL system
  • Working knowledge of at least one mainstream RDBMS (Oracle, UDB, SQL Server)
  • Past experience as a Data Base Administrator
  • Past project management experience (planning and estimating)
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products (Word, Visio, Powerpoint)
  • Experience with Physical and Logical Data
  • Modeling
  • Experience with ErWin data modeling tool
  • Adaptive personality
  • Past experience in full time traveling positions
