The Data Warehousing Institute (TDWI) recently announced their 2008 Best Practices award winners. Baseline client JEA was selected as a winner in the category, "Best BI/DW on a Limited Budget." Responding to this honor, JEA's Wanyonyi Kendrick and Faye Chatman took some time out of their busy schedules to answer a few question for Client Insight.

 

INSIGHT: At what point did you realize that a data warehouse could contribute to the Automated Meter Reading (AMR) solution?

 

Wanyonyi Kendrick: I am not sure there was a time when I didn't believe this was a great match - lots of information demanding lots of answers.

Faye Chatman: As soon as we began to understand the volumes of valuable data that this solution produced, it was clear to us that our data warehouse environment would be a perfect fit for both storing history as well as deploying advanced applications which in the AMR world are referred to as 'Day Two Applications'. Most utilities that have deployed AMR systems are still working on the operation (Day 1) aspect.
